We are delighted to be associated with Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Online Auction and Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Ball. Along with two wonderful charities: the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Their vital work is helping to develop new treatments and secure significant improvements for everyone affected by cancer.
At West Suffolk Hospital our skilled and dedicated doctors and nurses provide the best possible care to patients with cancer. The hospital has recently been awarded the Macmillan Quality Environment Mark which is given to units which are welcoming and accessible, respect privacy and dignity, and support patients’ comfort and well-being.
But what happens when patients leave the supportive environment of the hospital? For those who have had a diagnosis of cancer and had treatment for it, many are left to deal with the consequences not just of having cancer, but also of the effects of the treatments they have received. They can experience a range of problems; medical, psychological, social, spiritual and financial at a time when they are least able to cope.
We want to use the money that is raised from the auction and ball to fund a specialist ‘Sir Bobby Robson’ Nurse who will deliver compassionate and personalised care for people who are living with, or have lived with cancer.
The ‘Sir Bobby Robson’ Nurse will ensure that patients’ individual emotional and medical needs are met by helping them, their families and carers to access all the services they require. This holistic model of care will improve a patient’s well-being and health outcomes and encourage them to live as full and active a life as possible.
