What else is happening in Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Campaign?
There is another way you can get your hands on these amazing experiences, by bidding in the online auction when it goes live on 10 October. Just visit www.sirbobbysbreakthrough.com to register your interest and find out more.
Sir Bobby Robson was a football icon, after management spells at Fulham, Ipswich, PSV Einhoven, Sporting Lisbon, Porto, Barcelona, Newcastle and England. He died aged 76 in 2009, after a long battle with cancer. The first Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Campaign in 2011 raised close to a quarter of a million pounds for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and Breakthrough Breast Cancer, and so in 2013, the Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough campaign is determined to go further and raise £1million.
In addition to the text-to-win competition, the online auction runs from 10 – 27 October 2013. As in 2011, this year’s campaign is being supported by HRH The Prince of Wales, Prime Minister David Cameron, the FA, The PFA and the LMA and major football and sports clubs globally. As well as sporting bodies, and many other organisations and corporations, celebrities and stars from the sporting world and beyond have also pledged their support and are donating prizes to the online auction.
The money raised will go towards supporting clinical trials for new cancer treatments and the on-going support of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and Breakthrough Breast Cancer, as well as Ipswich Hospital and West Suffolk Hospital, Bury St. Edmunds.
Mark Robson, Sir Bobby’s son and Chairman of Sir Bobby Robson’s Foundation, comments:
“Sadly, cancer is likely to affect every one of us in one way or another and my family knows first hand the pain it can cause. That’s why we are so committed to continuing the work started by my father in supporting research for new treatments. My family, the foundation and I are very grateful to everyone who has got involved so far and we continue to be astounded by the generosity of the businesses and individuals who do so. We are excited by the new ‘Text-to-win’ competition and can only hope that we get the same incredible support as Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Online Auction has.”
Gina Long, the auction’s founder continues:
“I was lucky enough to know Sir Bobby and Lady Elsie for over 35 years. Sir Bobby was loved the world over and I, along with a brilliant committee wanted to create something very special to honour him. This amazing new text-to-win element is a fantastic platform that allows everybody to become involved in helping us raise crucial funds for The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and two Suffolk hospitals.”
